Why 1440p is the default now
Four years ago 1440p felt like a compromise between cheap 1080p and expensive 4K. It is not anymore. Panel prices dropped, GPUs and docks drive QHD without breaking a sweat, and the jump in sharpness over 1080p is the kind of thing you notice the first afternoon and then stop thinking about. If your team mostly lives in browsers, code editors, and spreadsheets, 1440p is the resolution I would default to before reaching for 4K, which brings scaling headaches and needs more expensive cabling to run properly. Refresh rate is the first thing you will see advertised, and for office work it barely matters. 100Hz versus 144Hz is invisible in a text editor and only shows up if someone is gaming on the same machine. What matters more is panel type — look for IPS if you care about consistent color and wide viewing angles, which most modern QHD monitors are anyway. USB-C with power delivery is genuinely useful if it means one cable instead of three, but do not pay a premium for it if your desk already has a dock handling that job.
The part nobody mentions: what holds the monitor up
A monitor is only as good as what it sits on, and this is where most buying guides stop paying attention. A fixed stand is fine if the monitor never needs to move. An arm earns its cost when you actually adjust position through the day, share a desk, or want to reclaim desk space by getting the base off it entirely. The thing worth knowing before you spend $200 on an arm: weigh your monitor without the stand, and buy the arm whose rated range actually brackets that number. Gas-spring arms are tuned for a weight range, not a maximum, and half the one-star reviews in this category are people who bought an arm rated for far more weight than their monitor holds — the arm never settles, it just drifts. Heavier is not automatically better. Lighting and glare, the part people skip
A sharp 1440p panel under a bad desk lamp still looks washed out. A monitor light bar clipped to the top of the bezel keeps light off the glass entirely, which matters more on glossier panels. And if your team is doing long stretches at these screens, the ergonomics side of the desk — chair, keyboard angle, wrist position — deserves its own attention; start with desk comfort and office chairs rather than assuming a nicer monitor fixes posture.

What I did was read Amazon’s own listings, spec sheets, and review-derived summary blocks, then cross-checked prices and ratings against a second independent pass on the same day. Where the two passes disagreed on a number, I either flagged the conflict or left the figure out rather than guess. A few products on this page — the Dell 27 Plus QHD USB-C model in particular — still have a thin review base, and I say so plainly rather than dress them up as proven. If a product looked good on paper but I could not verify it was actually buyable on Amazon right now, it did not make the list, no matter how often it shows up in other roundups.
Who should just buy the cheap one
If you are outfitting a small team and nobody has asked for 144Hz specifically, the ViewSonic VS2725-2K is genuinely enough monitor for the price, and I would not talk anyone into spending more for refresh rate they will not use. Save the budget for a decent arm or a light bar instead — both do more for daily comfort than an extra 44Hz ever will.
